I don't want to install iOS10 on my iPhone. How do I get rid of the software update notification

I don't want to see the software update on my phone all the time. If I don't want to update the software, is there any other way of turning off these notifications?

iPhone 5c, iOS 9.3.5

I've done what you've suggested, but within less than a minute I receive another notification that the same update is available. How do I keep this from recurring?

You cannot disable the notifications. All you can do is ignore them.
